However the outbreak of COVID-19 has somehow made it mandatory for everyone to put on a face mask so as protect themselves from the virus. Since the beginning of the pandemic we have been seeing different trends of protective clothing. At first, masks were just boring basic need. Dark boring colors like grey, blue and black were the most popular and most people were not keen about them.
Designers saw a business opportunity to make money by designing vibrant masks. This idea was embraced by fashion lovers who were tired of wearing masks that were boring. This was an opportunity to create colorful masks that appealed to different people with different interests. This proved to be a lucrative business for the designers because masks became a necessity for every person who is outdoors.
Masks have been found to be very uncomfortable sometimes and having to put them on all day has been a challenge to most people. Hence, there was a need to change the negative attitude towards facemasks. Fashion lovers started to create colourful and appealing masks. This took a wild turn on the acceptance of masks. Designers took up the challenge and delivered.
The most popular mask in Africa is the African print. These are made out of African materials. The popularly known Ndebele print has been leading the trends especially in countries like South Africa. Some have taken another level to the challenge by creating hats that match the masks. Those who can afford can get their masks custom designed to perfectly fit them. Celebrities have gone to embrace designer labels like Chanel and Gucci. Already the pandemic has brought sadness as such vibrant masks give people the chance to show off their culture and style, and at the same time look good.
The shield mask has also come into place. Fashion icons have been seen putting them on and their fans have embraced the trends
