Who Is Plaxedes Wenyika? – I am a multi faceted woman. I am an entrepreneur, singer, creative, economist and mom.
At what age did you develop your love for music? – There isn’t an age l developed my love for music. It’s innate l guess, l just always loved music.
When you decided to start your music career did you have full support from your family? – I pursued music officially in University and l am blessed to have had the total support of my family. They are my biggest cheerleaders.
How did it feel when your debut album Tisaparadzana heat the waves? – I was surprised, the reaction and reception was way more than l had anticipated. It was euphoric, realising the music made people happy.
What has been the greatest lesson you have learnt in your music career? – You can’t appeal to everyone. Write music that you feel inspired to compose not what’s trending. If what’s trending is your vibe then awesome.
Which international artist would you like to collaborate with in the future? – I love soulful artists. In Africa it would be Zahara, Mlindo. Internationally Adele, Labrinth and Sam Smith.
You have been an inspiration to many single moms out there. How do you balance work and being a mom? – You do what you can and get a good support network. No mom is perfect and that’s okay. I always make sure l have me time. I try to separate work time and family life.
What is your greatest motivation in life? – My children
What has been the scariest moment in your life? – Getting divorced and making the decision to start afresh.
What is one thing about you people would be surprised to know? – I am a Korean drama series junkie.
If you had a superpower what would you wish to be? – To let people believe in themselves and see just how unique and wonderful they are.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? – I don’t have a particular one that comes to mind now. But there have been several.
What is your favorite meal? – I love different foods at different times. Currently love Korean dishes.
What is your advice to women who want to follow their dreams? – Go for it. Stop waiting for permission, the vision is really inside you and no one knows what you’re capable of except you. Before you are someone’s mum, wife, daughter or child, you belong to yourself. So trust your intuition, your thoughts and yourself. Give yourself a chance…..
