By Nyasha Dube, Platinum Queens coach Simbarashe Mlambo says his team is ready to get back into action after sporting activities were given the green light to resume by the Sports Recreation Commission.
The Zvishavane based netball team which plays in the Rainbow Amateur Netball League (RANL) also bore the brunt of staying inactive for a long period of time because of the COVID-19 induced lockdown which can into effect last year.
The team finished second during the 2019 season and was eyeing for championship last year.
They had only played a couple of games when the lockdown began.
In an interview with Women’s Weekly Journal, Coach Mlambo said all is set to resume training.
“All the girls are now present and ready to start. We just need to follow protocol like registration of gyms and making sure we comply with the COVID-19 regulations, but we are trying to get that underway,” he said.
He also added that they await official communication from RANL and the Zimbabwe Netball Association.
“Once all that is settled we can resume training. Our girls have been doing individual training for the past month and there’s progress,” said Mlambo.
Apart from the pandemic, the team also had to deal with the loss of one of their players, but have managed to stick together and emerge stronger.
