With the skyrocketing of bread prices, one may wonder on what to cook as a substitute of bread. However, I have come up with a simple bun recipe which you can easily make at the comfort of your home.
Ingredients
*1/2 cup of milk
*1/2 cup of hot water
*2 and 1/2 cups of Flour
*1 sachet instant yeast
*3/4 cup of cooking oil
*3/4 sugar
*a pinch of salt
*1 egg
Method
- Mix milk and water together to form a warm mixture.
- Add instant yeast.
- Beat eggs in a separate container and add the water and milk mixture.
- Add cooking oil to the mixture.
- Mix all the other ingredients and add the liquid mixture.
- Knead for 8-10 minutes until a non-sticky dough is formed.
- Leave for 30 minutes to rise. When the dough has risen knead again for about 10 minutes.
- Roll into small balls into shape and lay in an oiled tray. Let them rise for 30 minutes. Bake at 180°C for about 20 minutes.
- Grill the top for 5 minutes or less until golden brown.
- Remove from oven
Optional -* rub the top with a glaze (sugar melted in a bit of water on a low heat plate).
You can serve with a cup of herbal tea.
