I get ideas about what’s essential when packing my suitcase. Everything I do is a matter of heart, body and soul. Dressing up. People just don’t do it anymore. We have to change that. Fashion can be this mysterious thing that you can’t explain. Design is a series of creative choices – it’s a collaborative effort, an evolutionary process. You choose your fabrics depending upon what you want to say, then you work with mills to get those fabrics. Through the process, you realize what you want it to be.

My aim is to make the poor look rich and the rich look poor. I don’t like trends. They tend to make everybody look the same. Attitude is everything. Attention to detail is of utmost importance when you want to look good. My aim is to make the poor look rich and the rich look poor.

A woman has the age she deserves. I still appreciate individuality. Style is much more interesting than fashion, really. I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? Fashion never stops. There is always the new project, the new opportunity. Women are women, and hurray for that.

Fashion is always of the time in which you live. It is not something standing alone. But the grand problem, the most important problem, is to rejeuvenate women. To make women look young. Then their outlook changes. They feel more joyous. Delete the negative; accentuate the positive! I’ve always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet. I always thought what you wore underneath was as important as what you wear on top. Design is a constant challenge to balance comfort with luxe, the practical with the desirable.
